“We’ve always tracked maintenance items due for every single car that comes in the door.  We used to have to go through the vehicle file for every car, now it all prints on the bottom of the repair order in our YES system.  We track 16 individual maintenance items on every car and our YES system shows us the date and miles each item was last done and the date and miles it’s due again.

“Using an appointment system to properly load the shop each day is extremely important.  We can hit any date on the little calendar in the corner of the screen to see if we’re booked for that day or have time to sell in seconds, without having to look through all the work.  It instantly displays the number of appointments, hours sold and hours available to sell.  This prevents under or over loading and lets us work at our best pace for maximum production and best work quality.

We now assign each job to a tech at the time of the appointment.  This allows us to play to each tech’s strengths and ‘put our best guy’ on each job, since they’re now all doing the work they’re best at.The YES system is ideal for this, as we have a little tab for each tech and it also displays sold hours.  This has boosted production considerably for the shop, improved work quality, customer and worker satisfaction, all at the same time.”
 
The YES system has allowed our shop to produce more work with 3 techs than we ever used to with 5 techs.  At Pace Computer’s suggestion, we put in a server and a network, with a terminal for each tech right in their bay.  This not only allows them to keep up with the cars they have to fix each day, but also gives them instant Internet access to repair information without taking a step to go anywhere.
